Validation Standard v1.0

At Rocky Ford Ammunition, performance claims are not marketing statements — they are documented results.

Every 9mm production lot is validated under a structured testing protocol prior to release. We publish full data sets because consistency matters more than hype.

Below is the standard applied to all 9mm defensive and duty loads.

1. Velocity Validation

Each production lot undergoes structured velocity testing using a designated test platform.

Protocol:

  • Minimum 15-round test string

  • Fixed chronograph distance

  • Documented barrel length

  • Ambient temperature recorded

  • No shots removed as outliers

Data Published:

  • Average velocity

  • Standard deviation

  • Extreme spread

  • Sample size (n value)

  • Barrel length

  • Test temperature

All velocity data reflects complete test strings. No shots are excluded.

Consistency is measured, not assumed.

2. Terminal Performance Validation (10% Ballistic Gelatin)

Terminal performance is evaluated using calibrated 10% ordnance gelatin.

Calibration:

  • Steel BB calibration performed prior to testing

  • Calibration penetration depth recorded

  • Block temperature documented

Testing Protocol:

  • Minimum 5-shot sample per lot

  • Impact velocity recorded

  • Penetration depth measured

  • Expanded diameter measured

  • Retained weight recorded

Data Published:

  • Average penetration

  • Minimum and maximum penetration

  • Average expanded diameter

  • Average retained weight

  • Impact velocity average

  • Calibration depth

Results represent multi-shot average performance, not single best outcomes.

3. Reliability Validation

Reliability is validated through structured live-fire testing prior to lot release.

Protocol:

  • Minimum 200-round reliability run per production lot

  • Multiple 9mm platforms utilized

  • Multiple magazine types evaluated

  • All malfunctions documented by type and round count

Data Published:

  • Total rounds fired

  • Platforms used

  • Malfunctions observed

Reliability claims are supported by documented round counts.

4. Dimensional and Quality Control

Each lot undergoes dimensional consistency verification.

Internal checks include:

  • Cartridge overall length sampling

  • Runout verification

  • Powder charge consistency spot checks

  • Component lot tracking

Dimensional variance is monitored and documented to maintain repeatable performance across production runs.

5. Transparency Commitment

Rocky Ford Ammunition publishes full performance summaries for each validated lot.

We do not remove unfavorable data.
We do not publish single “best-shot” results.
We report multi-shot averages under documented conditions.

Performance is measured within established pressure and safety standards.

Transparency is not a feature — it is our standard.
